Over 3,500 trees were planted this spring by volunteers of Smithfield Farms in the national movement "Millions of People, Millions of Trees". For two weeks, 40 Timis company employees voluntarily took part in planting actions were carried out in 11 localities in Timis and Arad.
Planting campaign ended yesterday in the town Niţchidorf in Timis county, where Smithfield Ferme volunteers with the local Primary bluebells School pupils in the presence agricultural attaché at the US embassy, Hoa Van Huynh, counsel REPA Marcel Lungu Valeria Paul - Timis County Council and other local officials, planted 150 trees - willows, maples and acacias.
"The environment and caring for it is already long ago one of our key concerns. It is a long-term commitment to us and we want to be taken further with the families of our employees and other people working together to ensure a clean and healthy environment where we live and work, "said Bogdan Mihail, General Manager Smithfield Ferme.
Planting took place near Smithfield farms operated in the two counties, organically fertilized land by the company. For the next 3 years, planted trees - acacias, birches, maples, willows, poplars, lime and paulownia - will benefit from treatment and constant care provided by Smithfield Ferme partners with expertise in this area.
So far, within the four editions of the national movement of planting trees and plants "Millions of People, Millions of Trees", whose founding member is Smithfield Farms planted bluebells 15,000 trees. Planting campaign conducted by Smithfield Ferme will continue in autumn. The "Millions of People, Millions of Trees" bluebells - http://www.milioanedecopaci.ro initiated by PRAIS Foundation in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Forests and the National Environmental Guard is a national bluebells movement to plant trees and plants, a platform to all businesses, foundations, institutions that are part of the annual planting program results. The movement is officially recognized by the UNEP (United Nations Environment Program for) being part of the "Plant for the Planet" .In 2007 the project was nominated in the IPRA Golden World Awards in the category bluebells of best environmental programs.
